When your kitchen is pretty full and all you need is to fill in some fruits and vegetables, a produce box is a great option. You can arrange delivery right to your house, and you skip all the extra things you didn’t really need to buy at the store. This time I decided to do a Misfits Market review. Like many other produce boxes (they seem to be popping up everywhere!), you get slightly irregular produce for a discount.
Why I Got a Bad First ImpressioN
My box was delayed due to weather, which is crazy because it was cold here one day – hardly any bad weather at all. It’s crazy how things have changed — one teeny bit of bad weather and shipping services SHUT DOWN — beyond annoying. Winters are nothing as bad as they used to be because of global warming, so the standards have completely changed. Ok I’ll get off my “the world has gotten wussy” soapbox.
With no delivery date in sight, I contacted Misfit Markets. I was less than thrilled with their response. Basically they said “it should be there in 1-2 business days, keep waiting.” They assured me they pack their produce super well, but I was seriously skeptical. It arrived the next day, three days after it was supposed to arrive.
How Much Does Misfits Market Cost
I chose the Madness Box, which got me 14 kinds of produce. A little insane for one person who lives by herself … but I’m really trying to eat a LOT more veggies. They also have add-ons, which cost also have discounts. These include pantry items, snacks, etc. I chose some dried pineapple, granola and protein drinks. With my discount, I spend just over $47.
How Fresh was the Produce Box
There was a LOT of damage. I had to throw out half the lettuce. It was on top of the box, with an ice pack laying on it for days.
A lot of the fruit was bruised. The onions and tomatoes were the kind of soft you get when you completely freeze something then thaw it out.
On top of that, half the broccoli was already brown and the avocados were frozen through.
How Misfits Market Resolved the Issue
I responded to the “just wait” email pretty angry, saying if this is your policy I won’t order from you again. They DID NOT RESPOND. I contacted them again after I saw how damaged the produce was. They refunded me for the avocados and gave me 50% off my next box. I honestly never think it’s a good solution to make me spend more money with your company to as part of making up for something you already messed up. And they really never apologized for the lateness, just that the items were damaged. OF COURSE they were damaged – it was produce that sat around for days.
Misfits Market Review Summary
Would I order again and do a second Misfits Market review? Honestly, I don’t know. Out of principle, I want to say no, they don’t deserve a second shot. However, the curiosity in me really wants to know what delivery would look like under more normal circumstances. And if there is a problem, would the customer service be so dismissive again? Well, I’ll tell you what, if I do decide to use that credit and try it again, you’ll be the first to know.

Update: Giving Misfits Market a Second Try
The second time I tried Misfits Market went much smoother. The box showed up on time and only one item was damaged. In that case, the damage clearly happened during shipping. I could also tell they were trying to make changes to improve their packaging. Watch the full unboxing and review to see how it went:
